There are over a thousand fires burning in the world’s largest tropical wetlands. It’s the Pantanal
region. It stretches from Paraguay to Brazil. It abuts the Amazon rainforest. The Pantanal is
home to thousands of irreplaceable plant and animal species, including jaguars and anteaters.
The Pantanal Conservation Area is on UNESCO’s World Heritage List. Many of the fires are
man-made, and an unusually dry rainy season has contributed to their spread.
